Farmhouse Family Day: Gees Bend’s Quilts

February 17, 11 am3 pm.
Free

The residents of Gee’s Bend Alabama are direct decedents of enslaved Africans who through their innovative quilt making, created a tradition that established both political and economic empowerment. Join us for Black History month as we learn about the patterns, colors, and techniques, used in the Gee’s Bend quilting community. Help create a felt collage to explore the vibrant colors, and historical patterns of the quilt work of this historic community.

Family Day runs from 11am to 3pm, with the felt craft activity beginning at 1pm. This is an all ages event, ideal for kids ages 4-10.

Tours of the Wyckoff House will be available starting at 12pm

Dress appropriately for the weather – Family Day takes place indoors and outdoors – and wear closed toed shoes if you plan on participating in any farm activities.

It’s recommended to use the restroom before your arrival. There is one port-o-san on the property.
